Message In A Bottle is born. After a long struggle with the idea of creating a quality and timely newsletter the decision was made. I feel a great responsibility in undertaking this task. I completely respect your time and want to make sure the things I write actually profit you as the customer. I intend on sharing quality business building tips and procedures in a humorous and maybe at times, irreverent manner. I want to consider this forum as a business related playground where ideas and successes can be shared. I am aware that many of our customers are business competitors, however I think the market is huge and the country (and world) is so large that we really never bump into one another. Not to bore you with facts but I feel it important for you to know me a little bit better. I have decided to make this first Message In A Bottle about me. Now this sound totally out of line!!!! I can image you deleting this email right now – but wait! I only do this so as you read my future messages you will have a clearer understanding of the author. Our life experiences mold each of us into the person we are. We will get into the important stuff starting with the next newsletter. Just so you know – the topic of the next Message In A Bottle will be PRICING. I have a very interesting background. After graduating from high school I went to college, not necessarily to learn, but to play baseball. Sports have always been a very important part of my life. Somehow during my freshman year I felt a need to go do something for others so I was sent to South America as a missionary for two years. I had taken two years of high school Spanish but honestly I think the only two things I learned were “hola” and Yo quiero Taco Bell”. I spent two years in Uruguay and became fluent in Spanish. Since I am very outgoing and enjoy meeting people and learning new cultures I quickly grew to love the Uruguayan people. During the two years in South America I learned to love and appreciate my own country as well. When I hear others criticize and condemn the good ol’ US of A, I ask them to leave for a few years and talk to me when they return. No we are not perfect but I kinda like it here. I returned to college from Uruguay and graduated with a degree in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice with a minor in Spanish. With my new four year degree in hand and my fluency in the Spanish language I was quickly hired by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department which is headquartered in San Jose, CA. After a year I accepted a lateral transfer to Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department. I spent approximately 20 years with the SSD and retired in March of ’02. During my time in Sacramento I worked in the jail system, patrol services, SWAT, communications and a few other areas. I was a sergeant in communications (911) and on the street. Sunburst Bottle Company began 9 years prior to my retirement from law enforcement. I made a conscious decision not to promote higher than the rank of sergeant. I was encouraged by higher ranking officials to continue on the promotional ladder but I knew that business was where I wanted to excel. Besides I have a boat load of great stories from my time on the streets. I intend on blending police stories, travel stories, and other life experiences with business tips and suggestions to hopefully create a well read and appreciated newsletter. Again, I look forward to hearing your experiences as well. Remember – the next Message In A Bottle will talk about PRICING. Thanks for indulging me. Until the next Message In a Bottle ….. ….. here’s to your success Dennis Gibson PS – The CS1/2 jars are back.
